Out on the road again we saw our first reindeer sneaking around, a good sign that we're approaching the mountains <3
We stopped at Harsprångets kraftverk to see if they might release some waterfalls, but we were there at the wrong time.
Lo and behold, just outside Gällivare we saw cloudberries at the side of the road. We literally jumped out of the car to pick the gold.
Gällivare unfortunately was not a success. A real ghost town, I might give it another chance sometime and it gave me cloudberries after all.
We stopped for a flea market sign and got tempted by this waffle sign. Felt genuine right?
Played a few rounds of cards in full on holiday fashion.
...and reached our first truly northern milestone - Torne älv / The Torne River!
We decided to stop to camp in Jukkasjärvi, where during winter time they build the well-known ice hotel. It was weird being in a place that actually felt like it was sleeping during summer time, the opposite of most cities in Sweden.
We camped at the Raindeer Lodge and could only imagine how cozy this place must be to hang out in these colorful cottages during the winter, to go dog sledding and sit in front of a fire.
We had bought some good food that was easy to prepare over the camping stove but still felt luxurious.
Black bean tacos in pita bread with avocado, roasted onions, red onions, tomatoes, red onions and taco sauce.
And the scenery!
We went for an evening walk in the neighborhood, and heard the Saami dogs bark and communicate with each other from long distances.
